The largest Swiss sporting event of 2019 is becoming a partner of «Cause We Care»

Starting this year, people who visit the National Wrestling and Alpine Festival (Eidgenössisches Schwing- und Älplerfest, or ESAF) can do something good for sustainability during their visit. The major event’s organisation committee has set itself an ambitious goal: It wants to make the festival climate neutral through its own sustainability management, joint commitment from visitors and sponsors and with the help of myclimate. That will make it a pioneering event in the industry.

In addition to offering a unique experience, the largest sporting event in Switzerland also wants to enjoy economic and ecological success, because “an event of this magnitude inevitably has consequences for the region, the local society and the environment” according to organisation committee president and councillor Heinz Tännler. myclimate helped calculate the festival’s carbon footprint for the first time. To compensate for the CO2 it emits, the festival selected two myclimate climate protection projects in Uganda and Nicaragua. Furthermore, the festival will also focus on environmentally and inhabitant-friendly travel to and from the festival for visitors and implement an extensive sustainability concept.

Festival visitors can also get active

Since «Cause We Care» has been integrated into the festival, people who visit the ESAF 2019 will also have a chance to promote sustainability. By making a simple commitment, they can make double the impact: By donating their bottle deposits or purchasing merchandising products, they make an additional contribution to help nature and the climate through myclimate «Cause We Care». The money will be used to finance local and regional sustainability measures and support global climate protection projects.

With its wide range of measures, the ESAF 2019 is taking on a pioneering role in sustainability management in sports.
